Physical Comedy Intensive with Mark Jaster & Sabrina Mandell

2 Days Only!

Sat, May 30 10:00 am - 5:00 pm

Sun, May 31, 10:00 am - 5:00 pm

$200

Taught by Mark Jaster & Sabrina Mandell of Happenstance Theater

This workshop explores physical techniques that support comic performance, with exercises in stillness, reaction, focus, clarity of mimetic gesture, illusion, physical characterization, status in the duo and trio, the inclusion of the audience, and clown. Mark draws on his training with Étienne Decroux and Marcel Marceau. Sabrina draws on her training with Dody DiSanto in the LeCoq pedagogy and almost two decades of experience as a theatrical clown. Their complementary approaches combine to address nuts-and-bolts physical, technical and structural skills and the more esoteric issues of honesty, presence and accessibility. It will be a super-charged, slam-dunk laboratory where the performers can get down to the nitty-gritty of what it means to “take the stage” and PLAY.

STAGE COMBAT - Mixed Weapon Renewal Intensive

Sundays, February 1 - March 22

6:30pm - 9:30pm

$175

The stage combat testing process usually matches weapons - knife against knife, sword against sword - but actual show conditions frequently ask performers and choreographers to mix weapons on stage.  This intensive will include performance and fight direction theory for approaching mixed weapons on a variety of stages and real-world theatrical conditions and will conclude with a Skills Proficiency Renewal in one weapon per student in a mixed-weapon scene.  Students should have taken at least one SAFD test.   All test fees are included.  Please note, due to space restrictions Staff may not be available as an option.  Class will be taught by Casey Kaleba of Tooth and Claw Combat Arts.
