Overview
Create an original story for the stage or screen!
Playmakers allows students to explore the joys and challenges of working as an ensemble to write, design, rehearse, and perform an original production live or for the camera. Every session introduces students to different ways of creating and sharing theatrical stories, as well as skill-building workshops in acting, movement, and design. The ensemble shares their original production at the end of the session. Film-making sessions now available!
“Our experience at Round House Theater Education has been wonderful. It is not a competitive environment, but rather, inclusive. Our son feels he can truly be his own goofy self while at the same time we have observed him growing as an artist with the support of encouraging and knowledgeable teachers and staff. And though the kids seem to be having a lot of fun, the performances as well as the discipline of acting, seem to be taken quite seriously.” RHT parent
A Day of Playmakers might begin with students working independently on design projects, before warming up through some light-hearted games. Their day could continue by attending session in movement or acting for film, before designing and painting their costume pieces. In the afternoon, they might explore how a script is different from a novel, and use improvisation to work on scripting the opening scene for their play or movie. The day includes several snack and rest breaks, as well as other less-structured time.
