When your hard-earned fame has been surpassed by a brilliantly gifted, potty-mouthed golden boy, what else can you do but smile to his face while secretly plotting his downfall? Peter Shaffer’s Amadeus, winner of seven Tony Awards ‑ including Best Play ‑ and the Oscar® for Best Picture, depicts the flamboyant genius of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart as seen through the eyes of his desperately jealous contemporary, composer Antonio Salieri.
With Edward Gero (Nixon’s Nixon) as Antonio Salieri, Sasha Olinick (Around the World in 80 Days, The Talented Mr. Ripley) as Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Laura C. Harris (26 Miles) as Constanze Weber, and DC theatre favorite Floyd King as Emperor Joseph II.
Mark Ramont, from Ford’s Theatre, directs a towering story of greed, obsession, and guilt set to the glorious music of revenge.
“Riveting…thrilling…high drama and delightful laughter…[Director Mark] Ramont hands these actors the stage, and they seize it.”‑ Washington Post
“Pitch-perfect. Director Mark Ramont’s touch is deft. Highly acclaimed actor Edward Gero delivers a virtuoso performance as Antonio Salieri and Sasha Olinick is alternately hilarious and deeply touching as Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart….Just for the record, in its literal Latin translation, Amadeus means ‘for the love of God.’ Do yourself a favor and, ‘for the love of God,’ go see Amadeus.” – Gazette
“Glorious” – Talkin’Broadway.com
“Powerful…[Edward] Gero is note-perfect as Salieri”– DCist.com
“From its sleekly stunning set to its phenomenally talented cast, Round House Theatre’s Amadeus is first-class all the way. It’s a visceral, enthralling evening of theater, an absolute must-see for any avid area theatergoer… a definitive production.” – DC Theatre Scene
