Join us on Thursday, January 7th at 6:30pm at The Phillips Collection for “Round House Theatre’s Permanent Collection and the Politics of Museum Display.”
This special program begins with a preview of some scenes from Round House’s production of Permanent Collection, performed by actors Jeff Allin, Jessica Frances Dukes, and Craig Wallace. This play by Thomas Gibbons focuses on two high level members of a museum staff as they engage in a racially charged battle over the display of African sculpture. After the preview, Adrienne Childs, curator in residence at The David C. Driskell Center; Permanent Collection director Timothy Douglas; Wendy Grossman, curator of the Phillip’s Man Ray, African Art and the Modernist Lens; Dorothy Kosinski, director of The Phillips Collection; and Round House Producing Artistic Director Blake Robison will discuss the issues addressed in the play. The program should be over no later than 8pm.
This program is included in admission to The Phillips Collection’s exhibition Man Ray, African Art and the Modernist Lens. Admission is free for Phillips Collection members. Man Ray, African Art and the Modernist Lens runs at The Phillips Collection through January 10th. For more about the exhibition, visit www.phillipscollection.org.
The Phillips Collection is located at 1600 21st Street, NW in Washington, D.C., approximately 1 block from the Q Street entrance of the Dupont Circle Metro station.
