SPECIAL HOLIDAY PERFORMANCES SCHEDULED
(BETHESDA, MD) The area premiere of a delicious stage adaptation of Pride and Prejudice, Jane Austen’s classic novel about love, passion, and the perils of courtship, comes to Round House Theatre for the holiday season. Directed by Producing Artistic Director Blake Robison, Pride and Prejudice is onstage from November 23 through December 31, 2011 at Round House Theatre Bethesda, with special holiday performances scheduled during December.
Tickets range in price from $10 to $60 and may be purchased by calling 240.644.1100, online at www.roundhousetheatre.org, or at the Round House box office in Bethesda. Groups of 10 or more should call 240.644.1387. Round House Theatre Bethesda is located at 4545 East-West Highway, one block from Wisconsin Avenue.
Fully capturing the spirit of the beloved book, Pride and Prejudice is delightful, romantic fun. It transports audiences to Jane Austen’s world of desperate spinsters, determined bachelors, nosy neighbors, embarrassing relatives, and a smarmy cad or two. Mr. and Mrs. Bennet are desperate. With no sons, they are determined to arrange profitable marriages for their five daughters. However, when two eligible young men arrive in the neighborhood, excitement and passion begin to rule. The Bennet household is in danger of being tipped firmly on its end as the willful, witty Elizabeth is taunted and tantalized by the disciplined, dashing Mr. Darcy.
Pride and Prejudice is made possible by generous support from Esthy & Jim Adler, Bonnie & Alan Hammerschlag, Ann & Bruce S. Lane, and Judy & Leo Zickler.
The Cast
The cast includes Kate Cook as Elizabeth Bennet and Michael Brusasco as Mr. Darcy, with Rick Foucheux as Mr. Bennet and Catherine Flye as Mrs. Bennet. Cook and Brusasco appeared as Elizabeth and Darcy in Blake Robison’s acclaimed 2010 production of Pride and Prejudice at Utah Shakespeare Festival.
The remainder of the cast includes Clinton Brandhagen, Danny Gavigan, Robbie Gay, Alice Gibson, Heather Haney, Tyler Herman, Elizabeth Jernigan, James Konicek, Valerie Leonard, Susan Lynskey, Brandon McCoy, Laura Rocklyn, Betsy Rosen, Michael Tolaydo, and Jjana Valentiner.
The Director
Blake Robison is in his seventh season as Producing Artistic Director of Round House Theatre where he has produced a wide variety of literary works, refined its educational programming, and commissioned new plays from some of the country’s most exciting up and coming playwrights. At the same time, he has kept the organization on sound financial footing by increasing both earned and contributed revenue and growing its endowment funds.
Most recently, Blake adapted and directed Round House’s successful production of Charming Billy, the beloved novel by Bethesda author Alice McDermott. Other RHT directing credits include Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa’s modernized The Picture of Dorian Gray (world premiere); Karen Zacarias’ How the Garcia Girls Lost their Accents (world premiere) adapted from Julia Alvarez’s celebrated novel; a rock music and dance infused Lord of the Flies; Ken Ludwig’s new adaptation of Treasure Island; a three-actor treatment of Dostoyevsky’s Crime and Punishment; the Helen Hayes nominated production of John Irving’s A Prayer for Owen Meany; and the American premiere of Neil Bartlett’s Camille.
Last spring, Blake traveled to Berlin to direct the Tennessee Williams classic Summer and Smoke at English Theatre Berlin. Other guest directing includes Pride and Prejudice at Utah Shakespeare Festival, The Winter’s Tale at Folger Theatre, Hobson’s Choice at PlayMaker’s Repertory, as well as multiple seasons at National Shakespeare Company, Clarence Brown Theatre, and Vermont Stage Company.
