For Students Grade K - 4

Summer Destinations
Ever wonder what it would be like to travel through time or to different lands? Then Summer Destinations is the class for you! Every day, students will travel to a new destination—from the Jolly Roger to Mount Olympus to Mars—create the world through visual arts, and then inhabit it through creative dramatics. Over the course of 9 sessions, participating students will learn the building blocks of art and acting as well as fun facts about the destinations. With dozens of worlds to explore, students can register for more than one session and experience a variety of destinations. No need for airplane fare or gas money, these journeys are fueled by imagination and creativity!

Program Days: Monday - Friday, 9am - 3pm

For Students Grades 5 - 7

Improvisation
Spontaneity. Imagination. Characterization. Narrative skills. This fun, high energy program teaches students the basics of improvisational acting. Working with professional teaching artists, students will learn to create characters and tell their stores in a blink of an eye. Students will increase their ability to share focus, take chances, follow creative impulses, and make strong performances choices. Improvisation concludes with a showcase of students' performance skills for family and friends.

Improv Break
Need a jolt of creative energy? Then take a break with Round House - an Improv Break that is! This class allows students a burst of creative energy as they free their imaginations and work on creative collaboration. An intensive, condensed version of the two-week Improvisation program, Improv Break culminates in a hilarious showcase with active audience participation.

Theatre Adventures: Myth and Magic
Hogwarts. Narnia. Mount Olympus. Wonderland. In this class, students will explore these magnificent places and the many characters and adventures that happened there. Students will bring stories from popular tales of magic and wonderment to life through theatre games and activities, eventually creating and performing original plays of enchantment and mystery. This class teaches fundamentals of theatrical performance. Myth and Magic concludes with a performance of students' plays for family and friends.

Theatre Adventures: Swordplay and Sunken Treasure
Theatre Adventures: Swordplay and Sunken Treasure Take to the stage for the voyage of the summer, a theatrical adventure that will include stage combat, physical comedy, improvisational acting, and monologue and scene study. Students will work with stories and plays of nautical adventure such as Treasure Island. The class concludes with a showcase for family and friends.

For Students Grade 5 - 8

Acting for the Stage
Because all the world's not a stage, how do you perform on one? In this class, students will explore the possibilities provided by dramatic texts and the actor's instrument to create characters and perform plays on stage. Through theatre games and exercises and monologue and scene study, young actors will work on creating fully realized characters and clearly communicating their actions and intensions from the front stage to the back of the house. Acting for the Stage concludes with a performance for family and friends.

Time Travels through Theatre
Improvisation grew-up to become "Who's Line is it Anyway?" but where did it start? When did actors perform in city streets more than a theatre? Travel through time and around the globe in this exciting, highly imaginative class. Students will experiment with different performance styles and acting approaches, working toward creating and performing original plays to be shared with family and friends at the program's completion.

For Students Grades 8 - 12

Actor's Lab
This unique class is designed for teen actors seeking new approaches to character creation, scene study, and theatrical performance. Participants will workshop a scene from a contemporary play with different professional directors Monday through Thursday, exposing the teens to diverse acting approaches and directing styles. On Friday, participants review the techniques learned during the week and rehearse final versions of their scenes to perform for family and friends at the day's end. Scheduled directors include Round House's Producing Artistic Director Blake Robison and renowned mime and physical theatre artist Mark Jaster.

Musical Theatre Performance
This comprehensive three-week session will provide students with the training and practical rehearsal experience necessary to perform scenes and songs from classic and contemporary musicals. During the morning students will cycle through lessons in acting, singing, and dance, and in the afternoon they will apply learned skills and techniques in rehearsal for a musical theatre showcase. Round House professional teaching artists will work with students on: interpretation of text and lyrics; creating and defining characters; vocal, movement, and dance techniques; how to act a song; incorporation of song in scene work; expanding personal repertoire.

Improvisation
Through exercises, games, and structured "free play", Improvisation will prepare teens to create fully-realized characters and react spontaneously on stage. The class encourages creativity, collaboration, risk taking, making strong performance choices, and leaving the audience in stitches. Improvisation culminates in a showcase for family and friends.

For Adults (17yrs old & up)

Actor's Craft (K - 2)
Adult students are invited to explore a variety of approaches, techniques, and views of acting from Round House professional teaching artists. Under the guidance, experience, and expertise of our faculty, participant will learn a vocabulary and skill set for creating and performing fully-realized characters through improvisation and monologue and scene study. Students found in the past that the skills acquired in our adult classes are transferable to the workplace, as they build self-confidence, improve public speaking skills, increase flexibility, and enhance creative problem solving. Actor's Craft culminates in a showcase of material worked on in class for family and friends.
