Stage Combat Workshops for Adults

Join Round House’s exciting new Stage Combat Workshops for Adults taught by DC area Fight Choreographer Casey Kaleba.

Stage Combat Workshop for Adults – FALL

From smacks and whacks to punching and crunching, this class will explore the basic skills needed to perform dynamic, safe, and effective fights for the stage. Through the lens of unarmed stage combat, students will explore functional movement, physical storytelling, as well as how to connect stage combat techniques to text, character, and intention. Students will fall down, toss each other around, dust up, and throw down. This class partially satisfies the requirements for skills testing with the Society of American Fight Directors and is open to absolute beginners, those that want a refresher or have a show coming up, and experienced stage combatants who want to practice and improve their skills.

Classes are Monday evenings, October 3 – November 14, from 6:30pm-9:30pm. No class on October 31.

Classes will take place in the Round House Theatre Rehearsal Room in the Silver Spring Civic Building, 1 Veteran’s Place.

Cost: $150 per 6-week session. Ages 18 and up. CLICK HERE FOR REGISTRATION FORM

Stage Combat Workshop for Adults – WINTER

Building on the material covered in Workshop A, this class will explore the effective performance of staged violence and prepare students for adjudication with the Society of American Fight Directors.  Through an exploration of fight choreography and theory, applied directly to performance, students will acquire practical skills required for physically safe and theatrically effective hand to hand fight scenes.  The course will conclude with a fight performance, choreographed by the instructor, and set to a student selected scene. Students that pass will receive Society of American Fight Director’s recognition in Unarmed – ideal for an actor, stage manager, teacher or director’s skill set and professional resume.

Classes are Monday evenings, January 23 – February 27, from 6:30pm-9:30pm.

Classes will take place in the Round House Theatre Rehearsal Room located in the Silver Spring Civic Building, 1 Veteran’s Place.

Cost: $150 per 6-week session. Ages 18 and up. CLICK HERE FOR REGISTRATION FORM
