Intersections
Intersections is Round House’s in-school theatre residency program designed for English, Language Arts, and Reading classrooms. The program provides students and teachers arts-based strategies for reading and interpreting literature.
Created in conjunction with Maryland’s Voluntary State Curriculum and Essential Learner Outcomes for Fine Arts (Theatre), Intersections provides students with engaging, interactive, and fun ways to read, analyze, and respond to literature by reading a literary work as if preparing to use it in a theatrical production.
RHT provides teaching artists to facilitate in-class workshops at participating schools to teach, explore, and discuss different aspects of theatre, including acting, set and costume design. Students create a portfolio of material over the course of the residency based on a text read in their Reading/English classes. The program culminates with a final in-class project in which students create a set design, costume design and acting scene based on their interpretation of a piece of literature.
